The very first Harvest Offaly Food Festival took place last weekend and what a fantastic couple of days it was. We are blessed to have so many incredibly talented food producers here in the faithful county and it was a perfect opportunity for them to showcase their products and help spread the word. The festival got off to a great start on Friday night with a lovely harvest moon cocktail party and a whiskey and food pairing interactive talk hosted by Tullamore Dew.
Saturday brought with it some absolutely gorgeous sunshine and a day full of demonstrations to include demos from Nessa Robins, Fiona Dillon, Kenmare Foodies and Padraic Og Gallagher of Boxty House fame. Amongst those who demoed on Sunday were Maria Raftery and Mickael Viljanen. It was a pleasure to watch these talented people and taste a sample of their delicious food.
The open air market made the town come alive with delicious pizzas and organic burgers being served up to lots of happy customers. Delicious vegetables in every shape and size were for sale and made me long for a more regular market day in our local town. So nice to see unusual variations and colours of everyday vegetables.
The highlight of the festival for me was the Long Table dinner on Saturday night which took place along the boardwalk on the banks of the canal. Delicious food, exquisite wine and fantastic company all combined to make a night to remember. Huge congratulations to all involved but especially to Yvonne Carty from Hey Pesto who organised, networked, welcomed and brought a smile to everyone’s face who attended over the weekend! I am looking forward to next years event already and advise you all to bookmark it in your diaries!
